The États généraux du film documentaire were created in 1989, in Lussas, France. This is a non-competitive event offering a week of encounters and discussions around the issues shaping documentary cinema. At once an observatory of evolving cinematic forms and a laboratory for reflection on questions of filmmaking, production, and distribution, the États généraux du film documentaire is also a space dedicated to showcasing recent works as well as rarely seen films from the archives.

In the summer of 1982, the Israeli army invaded Beirut. During this time it raided the Palestinian Research Center and looted its entire archive. The archive contained historical documents of Palestine, including a collection of still and moving images. Taking this as a premise, _A Fidai Film_ explores the visual memory of this looting and appropriates images now in the hands of Israeli archives.
