Massimadi presents films and documentaries with gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQ+) themes featuring members of black communities. It is a space where activists and artists address issues related to our communities in panels and discussions with the public. The festival is also a platform for promoting local talent from our communities through artistic presentations and showcasing LGBTQ+ Afro culture.
The Massimadi Foundation’s vocation is to promote the culture and arts of black LGBTQ+ communities as a vector of social change in the fight against homophobia, transphobia and also in the integration of LGBTQ+ Afro people.
The three missions:
To promote LGBTQ+ Afro culture and arts by organizing a major cultural event: the Massimadi Festival.
Prevent and fight discrimination among LGBTQ+ people from black communities, by offering artistic awareness workshops open to the public as well as by disseminating artistic works on themes related to sexual orientation, gender identities and challenges affecting visible minorities.
To highlight and encourage the creativity of LGBTQ+ artists from the Black communities by establishing recognition structures, mentoring programmes and creative workshops.
