Our Bodies Are Your Battlefields

Poster image Our Bodies Are Your Battlefields

In an Argentina divided between a deep conservatism and an unprecedented momentum in feminism, the film delves into the political journey and intimate lives of Claudia and Violeta. The fight they lead with their comrades against patriarchal violence is visceral and embodied. Convinced of their role at the center of an ongoing revolution that intersects with so many struggles, and in defiance of the old world, they dedicate their energy to invent a new present, to love and stay alive.

Our Bodies Are Your Battlefields begins in a courtroom, as the facts of the horrific murder of a transgender person are laid out. An isolated act? No. In a society still largely transphobic, Isabelle Solas portrays a community of people fighting for their right to exist. Through the lives of Violeta and Claudia, we discover more than a collective, but a true family of fighters, for whom the instinct for survival compels them to defend their place in public space through dialogue, rhetoric, struggle, but above all, by the presence of their bodies as political weapons. By documenting this struggle, Isabelle Solas also pays tribute to her protagonists, placing them at the center of the frame as heroines of cinema and our contemporary reality. An exercise that Violeta encapsulates at the end of the film: "Stop exposing us, build with us!"
