Born in Evin

Although this film deals with a deeply political and at the same time very personal topic, Maryam Zaree manages to adopt a narrative attitude that is characterized by both humor and immense seriousness in coming to terms with the consequences of the trauma that almost all of the protagonists have suffered.

The director follows her own story to end the silence that has accompanied her all her life about the place and circumstances of her birth. She meets other survivors, talks to experts, and searches for children who were born in the same prison as her. She tries to find answers to her personal and political questions. And along her path for answers, she realizes once more the power of breaking one's silence and putting into words what happened in the past.
