Ann Shin is a Toronto-based film director, writer and producer known for her compelling documentaries and series. She has a Master of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Toronto. During her studies, she was a feature editor for _The Varsity _and a radio host for Rights Radio on CIUT radio station. Shin's journalism career began at CBC Radio where she produced a number of shows, including sound poetry and radio documentaries. Realizing her love for long-form documentary, Shin moved into television and began to produce for television series for a number of networks, as well as direct independent documentaries. Her recent documentaries include The Defector: Escape from North Korea (2012), My Enemy, My Brother which was shortlisted for a 2016 Academy Award and A.rtificial I.mmortality (2021).
