Caroline Monnet is a French-speaking Anishnaabe multidisciplinary artist based in Montréal. She studied sociology and communication at the University of Ottawa and the University of Granada (Spain). She then pursued a career in visual arts and film. Her short films Ikwé (2009), Warchild (2010), Mobilize (2015), Tshieutin (2016), Dada Creatura (2016), Emptying the Tank (2018), were presented at TIFF. Gephyrophobia (2012) was presented at Rencontres Internationales Paris / Berlin, while Mobilize was selected at Sundance. She is nominated for Canadian Screen Awards in the category of Best Dramatic Short with Roberta (2014) and Best Documentary Short with Tshiuetin. In 2016, she was selected for the Cinéfondation residency in Paris. In 2021, Caroline Monnet premiered her critically acclaimed first feature film, Bootlegger. Monnet is recipient of the 2020 Pierre-Ayot award, the Sundance Institute's Merata Mita Fellowship and the REVEAL Indigenous Art Awards. Finally she was recently named compagne des arts et des lettres du Québec.
