After a career as a dancer in Belgium, Charo Calvo, originally from Madrid, obtained her master's degree in electroacoustic composition with Annette Vande Gorne at the Mons Conservatory, where she currently teaches. Calvo also leads sound creation workshops at Flemish art schools in Ghent. As a composer and sound designer, she has worked on numerous dance performances, theater productions, films, audiovisual installations, and acousmatic pieces. Her compositions are always imbued with a spirit of experimentation, where the pursuit of a personal language is fundamental and the dramaturgy of sound is reinvented each time. Her work has been recognized multiple times in international festivals, including the Palma Ars Acustica and Phonurgia Nova Awards.
