Daniel Payette is a lawyer, sociologist, filmmaker, writer, and publisher. He has specialized in the legal rights of authors, artists, and cultural enterprises. In film and television, he directed Pitié pour les étranges (1969) and assisted Arthur Lamothe in the documentary Le technicien en arpentage minier (1971). He was a commentator on the show Coup de pouce on TQS in 1990. In 2013 and 2014, he served as Chief of Staff to the Quebec Minister of Justice and Attorney General. Alongside his legal career, he has taught sociology, social work, political science, and law. In addition to being the editor-in-chief of Quartier-Latin and writing numerous articles, he co-authored La bonne aventure (Québec Amérique, 1986) and Le métier d’écrivain (Boréal, 1993). He wrote Constitution pour le Québec 101 (Québec Amérique, 2021). His first novel, Un tableau pour l’impératrice Sissi (Abduco), will be published in October 2024, and he will release La traviata de l’empereur (Abduco) in February 2025.
