Dea Gjinovci is a Swiss-Albanian filmmaker and producer. Her films have been showcased at some of the world’s most prestigious international festivals, including the Tribeca Film Festival, Visions du Réel, IDFA, CPH:DOX, and Hot Docs. She is a graduate of the Sundance Alumni Program and a 2019 Film Independent Fellow. Gjinovci’s cinematic style blends poetic storytelling, magical realism, and cinéma vérité. She has won several awards, including Best National Film at Dokufest 2017, and received accolades such as Best New Talent at ZagrebDox 2021 and Biografilm 2020. She became a member of the Swiss Film Academy following her nomination for Best Documentary for Wake Up on Mars in 2022. Gjinovci holds a bachelor's degree in economics and politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London and a master's in ethnographic and documentary film from UCL.
