Dominique Loreau is a filmmaker, writer and teacher born in Belgium. In 1980, she and Philippe Simon founded the production company Underworld films. She produced and directed three short fiction films: Départ (directed with Philippe Simon), Le saut dans la vie and Zigzags. From 1992 onwards, she produced and directed hybrid feature films, mixing documentary and fiction, in which she developed an underlying philosophical reflection: Les noms n'habitent nulle part, Divine carcasse, Au gré du temps, Dans le regard d'une bête, Une si longue marche. Her films have been selected for numerous international festivals, and several have won awards. She taught screenwriting and film analysis at the Université libre de Bruxelles for 30 years. Since 2003, in addition to her work as a filmmaker, she has been writing poetry and novels, most of which have been published in collaboration with the painters Lionel Vinche, Loustal, Elsa Cha and Mathias Perez. She is also developing a body of photographic work exhibited in galleries.
