Élisabeth Perceval was born in France but left to live in Quebec at the age of twelve. She studied at the National Theatre School of Canada in Montreal before returning to France in 1970, where she met stage director Bruno Bayen. Together they founded the Fabrique de Théâtre Company in which she acted under the pseudonym Elsa Pierce. In 1988, she played in The Bengali Night, a show by Nicolas Klotz. This artistic encounter led to both a love affair and a professional partnership, with the actress putting her acting career on hold to devote herself to writing. She wrote the scripts for The Sacred Night (1993), Paria (2001), Nus (2005), Heartbeat Detector (2007), and Le Festin des chiens (2009). In 2004, they founded the production company Pierre et Grands Oiseaux and the Compagnie des Indes. In 2007, they wrote and directed the short The Consolation, followed by the feature Low Life (2012). For the 67th Avignon Festival in 2013, they presented Le Vent souffle dans la cour d’honneur, starring two major actresses, Juliette Binoche and Jeanne Moreau. Their most recent films include The Wild Frontier (2017), Fugitive, where are you running to? (2018), Saxifrages, four white nuits (2021) and Let's Say Revolution (2021).
