Eric Pauwels was born in Belgium in 1953. Passionate about cinema and anthropology, he completed a doctorate at the Sorbonne with Jean Rouch, one of his fundamental influences. His work first focused on dance, through ethnographic documentaries and then through collaborations with dancers. His Trilogie de la cabane, comprising Lettre d'un cinéaste à sa fille (2000), Les films rêvés (2010) and La deuxième nuit (2016), takes him towards a more intimate form of filmed diary. He is also a professor at INSAS.
