Éric Ruel is a Quebec filmmaker, editor, cinematographer and producer. He founded La Ruelle (formerly Productions de la ruelle) with his sidekick Guylaine Maroist. The duo produced and directed many award-winning films: Chanter plus fort que la mer (2003), Bombes à retardement (2007), Gentilly or Not To Be (2012), God Save Justin Trudeau (2015) and Expo 67 Mission impossible (2017). The tandem is also behind the television series J'ai la mémoire qui tourne (2009), a safeguarding project for the home videos of Quebec families from the 1920s up until the ’80s. For this project, Éric Ruel and Guylaine Maroist received the Governor General History Award, also called The Pierre-Breton Award, the highest distinction in history in Canada. In 2020, they are released a participatory film, the comedy Jukebox.
