Born in the Saint-Henri district of Montreal in 1931, Gilles Groulx passed away prematurely in August 1994, at the age of 63. He left behind a strong, committed, militant, revolutionary, subversive and demanding body of work, but always firmly rooted in reality, that is to say, close to the concerns and aspirations of workers, ordinary people and the people. Gilles Groulx's place in the cinematographic landscape is crucial. His films have contributed to the emergence of a national cinema in Quebec, and have opened the way for Quebec filmmakers to follow. His major works include Les Raquetteurs (1958), The Cat in the Bag (1964), Between You and You All (1970), 24 Hours or More (1973).
