Jean Gagné is a Quebecois director, editor, and screenwriter, born in 1947 in Jonquière into a working-class environment. He entered the world of filmmaking with the creation of his first film, Saison Cinquième, in 1968. As an independent filmmaker, he has directed and edited around twenty feature films. Over time, his involvement, approach, and commitment have established him as a filmmaker known for his poetic and exploratory cinematic expression. Collaborating with his brother Serge, they scrutinize human folly and delve into the complexities of our imaginations. Under his direction, Production Cocagne established a collection called La poésie à l'ouvrage, dedicated to showcasing diverse creative forms of expression. This collection includes works devoted to figures such as Gaston Miron, Denis Vanier, Armand Vaillancourt, Gilbert Langevin, Pierrot Le fou Léger, and Roland Giguère, among others. Gagné is also a founding member of the Rézo de diffusion du cinéma indépendant and has served as vice-president of the board of directors of Diffusion Conventum. Additionally, he engages in multidisciplinary artistic practices, particularly in creating multimedia collages.
