Jean-Pierre Masse has made about fifteen films, a majority of which are socially engaged documentaries, including the very first documentary on the FLQ (Quebec Liberation Front), two films devoted to Haiti, as well as the important documentaries La nuit de la poésie of 1970, 1980 and 1991 co-directed with Jean-Claude Labrecque. He also taught cinema at UQAM from 1976 to 2008 and thus trained a large number of filmmakers in Quebec. Jean-Pierre Masse was one of the founders and judges of the Course destination monde for several years. During his career, he has also participated as an editor, assistant director and performer in a large number of artistic and educational productions.
