Through her anthropological practice, tinged with humor and a certain fascination with kitsch and pop culture, she firmly believes that documentary is an art of encounter that aims to forge links between human beings. Her previous films (The Woman Who Saw The Bear, Snowbirds, and King Lajoie) have been shown on television, in cinemas, and at prestigious festivals around the world. In 2021, she directed Gabor, a feature-length documentary on the inspiring photographer Gabor Szilasi. A passionate documentary filmmaker, her infinite curiosity and eagle eye lead her to unprecedented subjects, and the camera becomes the pretext for genuine encounters. Joannie lives, works, dresses, and plays in Montreal and wherever life takes her.
