Krzysztof Kieslowski (1941-1996) was a Polish director and screenwriter who graduated from the National Film School in Lódz in 1969. Before making his first film for television, The Underground Passage (1974), he created a number of short documentaries, taking part in the "Cinema of Moral Anxiety" movement, which brought together several Polish filmmakers including Krzysztof Zanussi and Andrzej Wajda, and which aimed to depict the living conditions of Poles under communism. He is the author of numerous feature films, including Blind Chance (1981), A Short Film About Love (1988), The Double Life of Veronique (1991) and the series Dekalog (1989). His best known work is his trilogy composed of Three Colors: Blue (1993), Three Colors: White and Three Colors: Red (1994).
