Luce Guilbeault, a committed feminist artist born in 1935 in Montreal, was introduced to the arts at an early age, particularly music and theater. Her career began as an actress in theater, and she excelled in French Canadian plays. She also had a successful career in cinema, appearing in some twenty films, including Réjeanne Padovani by Denys Arcand (1973), O.K.... Laliberté by Marcel Carrière (1973) and Tendresse ordinaire by Jacques Leduc (1973). In the 1980s, she successfully worked on soap operas such as Le Temps d'une paix, Des dames de cœur and Un signe de feu. In 1991, she received the Iris Prize for her body of work and the Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois created the Prize Luce-Guilbeault in her memory.
