Independent filmmaker and media arts curator born in Montreal in 1959, Lysanne Thibodeau explored various forms of artistic expression throughout her career: art and experimental films, documentaries, fictions, artist portraits, music videos, installations... After completing her film studies, she lived in Europe for fifteen years, where she worked as a journalist, production manager, and casting director. She resided in Florence and Rome, then in Berlin before, during, and after reunification, where she made short films and portraits for various European broadcasters. Upon returning to Montreal, she earned a master's degree in visual arts with a specialization in film and became a lecturer. She then continued her career as a filmmaker and curator, collaborating with various artist-run centers. Her works were presented at various international festivals, winning several awards. She passed away in April 2018.
"My father was taken from me when I was a child, then my mother and my brother when I was barely a teenager. I left, to isolate myself, to escape, to flee. Can time erase the past? Upon my return from a long exile, I remember. Travelling back in time, inner movements, the future beckons. A tribute to my homeland." (Lysanne Thibodeau)
