Marie Voignier is a filmmaker born in 1974 in France. After obtaining a scientific degree and spending a few years in Berlin, she studied at the School of Fine Arts in Lyon where she made her first videos, graduating in 2004. Since 2011, she has been teaching and coordinating its Images-Movement Department. Her work includes Le Bruit du Canon (Short Film Award, Cinéma du Réel 2007), Interland (2009), and Tourisme International (2014). L'Hypothèse du Mokélé-Mbembé was released in cinemas in 2012 after being screened at numerous festivals such as FID Marseille, Rotterdam and Belfort Entrevues. In 2020, she completed NA China, which premièred in Switzerland at the Vision du Réel.
From 2018 to 2022, a group of citizens who support or carry out actions to welcome exiles crossing the French-Italian border, particularly in the Roya Valley, are initiating a “New Sponsors” commission. They invited the artist Marie Voignier to create a film based on a collective human experience, through the notions of welcome, hospitality and solidarity.
