Miryam Charles is a director, producer and cinematographer of Haitian origin living in Montreal. She studied film production at Concordia University, graduating with a BFA in 2009. After her studies, she began her career as a director of photography, working on several occasions with filmmaker Olivier Godin. Afterwards, Miryam Charles went on to produce a number of film projects that gave her the confidence to direct her own work. Her first art-house short, Fly, Fly Sadness (2015), won the Best Art and Experimental Work Award at the Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma. This was followed by several acclaimed experimental shorts: Towards the Colonies (2016), A Fortress (2018), Drei Atlas (2018) and Second Generation (2019). Her first feature-length documentary flirting with experimentation and fiction, This House (2022), was screened at the Berlinale and the AFI Film Festival and was included in the TIFF Top 10 in 2022. She also launched the short film At Dusk at the Locarno Festival in the same year. As a producer, she is currently working on post-production for the series Après le déluge.
