Born in 1955 in Hamilton, Ontario, Neal Livingston is an award-winning independent film director. He has been involved in filmmaking for over 35 years, specializing in documentary production for television. He deals primarily with political and humorous subjects. He attended York University where he completed a degree in Fine Arts with a major in Film. He pursued his studies at Dalhousie University and at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. He has lived on the west coast of Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia since 1975. Since 1987, when he founded Black River Productions Limited, Livingston has produced a series of intimate portraits of the passions of a few non-conformist individuals. Versatile, he is also involved in environmental activism. Since 1978, his commitment has led him to produce a series of committed, award-winning, and controversial documentaries on the environment.
