Pierre Clémenti, an actor and director born in Paris 1942, undertook more than 100 films in front of and behind the camera throughout his 38 year carrier. After a difficult childhood, adolescent, he became a poet, writing and recording for the radio. He then discovered a passion for acting, which allowed him to express himself with his whole body. He took his first steps onto the stage under the direction of Jean-Louis Barrault, after which he joined the avant-garde theatre troupe directed by Marc’O. He worked with many well-known directors, notorious for their personal styles and passionate ideals: Bernado Bertolucci, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Luis Buñuel, Luchino Visconti, Glauber Rocha, Michel Deville, Philippe Garrel, Jaques Rivette. He also acted along side renowned actors such as Catherine Deneuve, Michel Piccoli, Alain Delon, Klaus Kinski, Burt Lancaster, Harvey Keitel and Bulle Ogier, to name a few. As a director, he completed five films between 1967 and 1988. A genuine artist, he refused to follow a commercial career, and the easy glory that could have been a result of his young physique. He won the public's approval through his choice of revolutionary films and his strong performances. He remains a major figure in modern cinema of the 1960s and 70s. Author of Quelques messages personnels, a veritable indictment against justice and prison conditions, he died at the age of 57 from cancer.
