Raymond Gervais and Michel Di Torre met in 1970 at the Warehouse, a Montreal record store frequented by famous jazzmen. They were passionate about music and were also critical of the shackles in which Montreal jazz was confined. The Warehouse closed its doors in 1971, but that wasn't the end of their story. The project for an experimental music workshop (Atelier de musique expérimentale - AME) brought them together again in 1972. AME was officially born the following year, thanks to the efforts of Gervais and Di Torre, as well as Yves Bouliane and Robert Marcel Lepage, two musicians with enormous potential at the time. They were soon joined by Vincent Dionne, Michel-Georges Brégent, Tristan Honsinger, Bryan Highbloom and many other outstanding musicians.
