Born in Lithuania, Rugilė Barzdžiukaitė completed a Master's degree in documentary at Goldsmiths College, University of London, and a Bachelor’s degree in cinematography and theatre directing at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in Vilnius. In her creative work, she focuses – in a playful way – on the gap between objective and imaginary realities as well as on the anthropocentric way of thinking. She is one of the three artists who represented Lithuania at the Venice Biennale in 2019.
