Vera Čákanyová was born in 1980 in Bratislava, Slovakia. She graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava in screenwriting and received a BA from the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague in documentary film. Her feature debut FREM had its world premiere at the Ji.hlava IDFF 2019 followed by its presentation at the Berlinale 2020. The film was screened at more than two dozen important international film festivals around the world. Her subsequent film White on White won the main prize at the Ji.hlava IDFF in 2020 and was selected for the main competitions at the prestigious Sheffield DocFest and ZagrebDox. Besides working on her own films, she also works as a script editor and editor of independent film projects and makes documentary films for non-profit organizations and television.
