Having grown up within the skateboarding community, Virgile Ratelle has always gravitated toward a camera with the intention of documenting the present moment. He completed his bachelor's degree in visual production at UQAM in 2021 with his graduation film Lost dans l’Paradise, which enjoyed success at numerous festivals in Quebec and internationally. He affirmed his refined and tender style with Summer Nights (2022), capturing the intimacy of two best friends and skateboarders during the summer of their fifteenth year. Summer Love (2024), his latest short documentary, selected notably by Regard, continues in the same vein, filming couples on the edge of an abandoned quarry.
On the banks of an abandoned quarry, couples confront their love before taking a dip.
As night falls on the outskirts of Montreal, the shrill sound of scooters pierces the silence. Helly and Nathan roam the streets in search of the best skateboarding spots, dreaming of the most beautiful tricks.
