Virginie Despentes is a French writer and director born in 1969 in Nancy. Her novels tackle difficult themes with a raw style, which makes her a key figure in the French literary scene. In 1992, she wrote the novel Baise-moi which was published in 1994 and marked the beginning of her writing career. She then published her second novel Les Chiennes savantes in 1996, then wrote the feminist essay King Kong Theory in 2006, before writing the trilogy Vernon Subutex 1, 2 and 3 between 2015 and 2017. The novelist puts her film studies into practice by adapting two of her books into films: Baise-moi (Fuck me) in 2000 and Bye Bye Blondie in 2011. Upon its release, the film Fuck me is immediately withdrawn from the screens. Its content and the violence of the sexual scenes shocked some of the public. In 2009, she directed the documentary Mutantes on porn-punk feminism.
