Born in Japan in 1979, Yuki Kawamura is a filmmaker living and working in France since 2000. His first fiction short "Senko" (2008) won the Ecumenical Award at the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen. In 2010, his documentary short "Grandmother" (2010) received the short film award at the Cinéma du Réel documentary film festival. Three years later, he was awarded another prize at Cinéma du Réel, for his documentary feature "Mirror of the Bride" (2013). Together with his latest documentary, "Nori"e (2019), "Grandmothe"r (2010) and "Mirror of the Bride" (2013) form a cycle dedicated to the important women of Yuki Kawamura’s life.
During the annual ghost festival in Japan, the director, Yuki, along with his father Munemitsu, embarks upon an emotional journey in the footsteps of Norie. Together they draw a portrait and honour the memory of Yuki’s mother. As they bring her back from the depths of their memories, the two men discover each other and create new, unexpected bonds.
