Highly choreographed and featuring some impressive shot compositions, as meticulously crafted as the city in which it unfolds, Pássaro Memória surprises with its unabashed symbolism. A bird disappears. It is named "Memory." A queer protagonist wanders, lost, in a series of intimidating urban scenery. A boss, some customers and hostile passersby block her path. There is nothing subtle about this approach, yet we find ourselves naturally drawn in.
As Lula searches for Memory, "her" bird, she begins to question. Who does it really belong to? And by default, asking that question kind of leads to another, this time with countless implications: what about us? Who do we belong to? The city is a sanctuary supposedly built in our image. After all, we don't build skyscrapers for birds...
Or, do we?
