Founded in 2004 under the name Front des réalisateurs indépendants du Canada, the Regroupement des artistes cinéastes de la francophonie canadienne (RACCORD) is the only national association that unites and represents Francophone filmmakers working in cinema and audiovisual media within Francophone Canada outside of Quebec. Its primary goal is to promote independent creation by supporting its members and offering them a comprehensive range of services tailored to their needs. RACCORD is also committed to advocating for the interests of Francophone filmmakers in minority communities, addressing industry challenges such as funding, distribution, and the recognition of cultural diversity within the Canadian film landscape.
To celebrate its 20th anniversary and the vitality of media arts in Francophone Canada, the organization has launched a groundbreaking initiative, "RACCORD fait son festival," in collaboration with numerous partners. This initiative includes a pan-Canadian and international tour of films created by its members, aiming to increase the visibility of Francophone creators among the general public.
We extend our gratitude to Tënk for opening its doors to films of artists from Francophone Canada in their relentless quest for recognition. This embodies the dedication and perseverance of a collective of filmmakers who have claimed and secured their place in Canada’s media industry over the years. A collection of works exists—often award-winning yet too frequently overlooked, largely overshadowed by the dominant Anglophone and American cultures. Through this journey across Franco-Canadian cinema, from Acadia to Manitoba via Ontario, the documentary genre is celebrated with unique forms and revitalizing, engaging stories. We also thank the authors of the reviews on the films presented: filmmakers and cultural intermediaries from our Francophone communities.
