Among the synonyms of the word "breast", there is the familiar, almost childish, "lolo" (boob). By using this word to form the title of her film, director Marie Valade introduces a note of delicate humor before the first image even appears. This feminist short film consists of an introspective look at the relationship between women and this part of their body. At the same time, she delves deeper into certain themes, and certain anxieties, adopting a rhythm that follows the unusual course of a dream: illness, rivalries, aging, and desire. Animation has this distinctive ability to render reality through artifice. The filmmaker, therefore, creates images of a symbolic nature, first shooting real footage that is then traced onto a 2D medium, then reworked to produce astonishing metaphors. Marie Valade's film is remarkable, following in the footsteps of feminist animation pioneers in Quebec such as Francine Desbiens and Suzanne Gervais, while simultaneously enriching today’s landscape of feminist animation, which includes artists like Marie-Josée Saint-Pierre and Michèle Cournoyer.
