Axomama

_Axomama_ follows the life of Alberto and his relatives, a family of potato custodians in the Peruvian Andes. The film weaves a parallel between the potato’s journey and the narrator’s complex tracing of her own origins, grappling with questions of identity and belonging. From a sacred tuber to one of the world’s most ubiquitous foods, the humble potato emerges as both metaphor and mirror of resistance in the face of survived displacement.

Through a patient and attentive gaze, Axomama reveals how, from an apparently simple subject, the much broader story of a people—their memory and their resilience—can emerge. Carried by superb images, the film weaves an intimate connection between the land, science, and transmission. Little by little, a symbol comes into focus: that of a humble yet essential food whose journey—from the earth to the laboratories where its genetic heritage is preserved—also tells the story of a culture’s persistence and the beauty of a country.
