Since its creation in 1996 in Montreal, the Fantasia International Film Festival has explored the various aspects of genre cinema, building bridges between avant-garde and mainstream cinema on both the local and international scenes. Fantasia's definition of genre cinema is broad and evolving. The festival's programming skilfully juxtaposes pop, alternative and underground cultures, offering a rich and diverse programme each year from the four corners of the world. Fantasia will be celebrating its 27th edition this year, from 20 July to 9 August 2023.
