Originally from the community of Wemotaci, Catherine Boivin is Atikamekw Nehirowisiw and lives in the Abenaki community of Odanak. She explores topics of particular concern to Indigenous Peoples, including the role of women, beauty standards, forced sterilization, the occupation of the land, and colonialism. In doing so, Boivin deconstructs both positive and negative stereotypical views, offering up a personal, contemporary reading of her culture. She took part in the group exhibition De tabac et de foin d'odeur: Là où sont nos rêves (2019, Musée de Joliette) and presented her first solo production, Nikotwaso, at daphne, a self-governed Indigenous art centre (2022, Tio'tia:ke /Montréal).
