Monique Crouillère is originally from France. Born in 1945, she studied psycho-sociology and ethnology before enrolling at the Conservatoire Indépendant du Cinéma (France). She moved to Quebec in 1971 and began working as a camera assistant on numerous productions for Radio-Canada and the National Film Board of Canada. She has worked as a camerawoman, researcher, and screenwriter on many fiction and documentary films. Her directorial works include Shakti (1976), Manger avec sa tête (1980), Les gens du fleuve (1986), Burock di Buyeget (1985), and Avoir plus ou être plus (1985).
