These Streets Will Never Be the Same is a visually striking documentary that immerses viewers in a unique cinematic experience. Shot almost entirely from inside a car—a powerful symbol of a whole culture—it takes us on a road trip through the heart of the United States. With this original approach, the director unveils the hidden side of the American Dream.
Through changing seasons and times of day, the car drives us past natural landscapes, industrial-scarred horizons, rows of identical houses, disadvantaged neighborhoods, and bland commercial spaces. This journey places us in the role of observers, enhanced by an evocative soundscape combining direct road noise, textures, music, voices, confidences, poetry, and radio broadcasts that confront contemporary issues. These include topics like industrial pollution, gun violence, and climate change denial.
This film paints a very current portrait of a fractured country—economically, racially, environmentally, and politically. Before our eyes, the disunited states of America reveal themselves.
