“Martin died on his birthday, at 33 years old…from AIDS. From that point on, I felt a huge void. A void that no human being could fill.”

With these opening lines from its subject, Beyond the Void makes it clear that we will be transcending documentary cinema. We’re swept away by a story about the void as poetic as it is philosophical, illustrated by snippets of footage, haunting words, and silences that speak all the louder. Created for a communications Bachelor’s program in media creation/film, the project brought together a group of students who threw themselves into the creation of their first professional-grade short film. Beyond the Void is a film that shatters and embraces you all at once.
