In the heart of Quebec's Kamouraska region, Patrice Fortier lives in La société des plantes (The Society of Plants), where he meticulously preserves rare or forgotten plant seeds, like a medieval copyist, to create “ancient varieties of the future.” Patrice gardens while dreaming and transforms his harvests into artistic projects. Throughout the seasons, with patient care, he shares his passion and knowledge with us while building his seed bank. These seeds of life will grow in thousands of vegetable gardens across the planet. An ode to plant biodiversity and heritage, carried forward by an original and genetically motivated seed producer. Beware: the impossible is happening.

Anyone in need of a little dose of optimism and beauty should watch *The Sower*. A lesson in slowness, silence (filled with sounds!), presence in the world, and attention, this film restores faith and confidence in a humanity that has been badly mistreated. Patrice Fortier works to preserve plant heritage. Collecting seeds from certain endangered species can sometimes take years! The meticulousness of his actions, captured with equal patience by the filmmaker (such as when he prepares his business cards by hand, writing on bark with a typewriter...!), gives us access to ancestral knowledge. He tirelessly repeats age-old gestures: clearing, planting, pulling, watering, sorting. And his gestures are imbued with the grace of an artist, who sculpts the material, photographs it, listens to it, allowing himself to be in the moment rather than in repetition. And the images of Julie Perron, who films the garden like a painting, using a tripod, offer rest for the soul and the eyes.
