Tënk Canada is a solidarity cooperative based in Tiohtiá:ke / Montreal dedicated to the promotion of creative documentary cinema. Through curation and cultural mediation, Tënk's mandate is to make this film genre more accessible and to encourage the discovery of socially important documentaries that sometimes struggle to reach their audience.
The celebration of the importance of indigenous cultures is part of the values we try to put forward at Tënk. That’s why we would like to acknowledge that Tënk is located on unceded Indigenous lands. The Kanien’kehá:ka Nation is recognized as the custodians of the lands and waters on which we gather today. Tiohtià:ke/Montréal is historically known as a gathering place for many First Nations. Today, it is home to a diverse population of Indigenous and other peoples. We respect the continued connections with the past, present and future in our ongoing relationships with Indigenous and other peoples within the Montreal community.
At Tënk, only one thing fuels our choice in films : Love.
Divided in categories, sometimes formal, sometimes thematic our line-up is curated by professionals of the documentary industry. Filmmakers, critics, scholars, but above all, cinephiles. Curators hold their roles for a whole year, sharing their highlights from festivals, their memories and passion through their selection of outstanding documentary films.
They are whom we owe the richness of Tënk. An interlacing of views on the world, a plurality of views on cinema.
