"Siméon, a young member of the Innu community of Nutashkuan, located 336 km east of Sept-Îles, invites us into his world. ""Hello, greetings!"" he says in Innu, before translating into French for our understanding. Then, he hops onto the back of a four-wheeler to give us a tour of his community.
What stands out in this short film, barely four minutes long and created in collaboration with the Wapikoni Mobile team, is what Siméon chooses to share.
He speaks about his pride in being Innu and his fear of losing the language. He talks about the spirit of mutual support within the community and the importance of elders. In a monologue filled with sincerity and truth, delivered with the spontaneity of a single breath, he shares what he loves and what hurts him, offering small yet profound reflections. His words often bring a smile, especially during a touching scene with his grandmother as she cooks, while Siméon recalls a moment when he sang Céline Dion.
Gazing at the horizon, he leaves us with thoughts about his future and a meaningful parting phrase: "I’d like to experience freedom for a few months."
This film perfectly embodies the spirit of Wapikoni Mobile: empowering individuals with the tools to express themselves."
