Émilie Brisavoine grew up under a high-voltage pylon in the south of France. After an insomniac adolescence spent alongside Stephen King, she moved to Paris to study applied arts at the École Duperré. Following an experience as a designer, she began creating drawings about the world, women, and dogs. She appeared in La Bataille de Solférino by Justine Triet and later acted in Peine perdue by Arthur Harari. Released in cinemas in 2015, Pauline s'arrache, her first feature-length film—a documentary about her family presented at ACID Cannes—was met with critical acclaim. Maman déchire (2023) is her second feature film.
With this film, Émilie attempts to understand the mystery of her universe: her mother Meaud. Magical grandmother, broken child, punk mother, spontaneous feminist, she fascinates as much as she disrupts. The film invites the audience to dive into an intimate odyssey, an intergalactic journey through the psyche.
Contemporary Paris. In Pauline’s kingdom, the king wears high heels, the queen swears like a trooper and the princess spits in the face of Prince Charming. A wreck of a documentary, rebellious, fascinating and heartrending with stories of love and hate, and family above all.
