Federico Luis was born in Buenos Aires in 1990, where he studied social communication at university. In 2018, he directed Mirko, his first short film, which won the Audiovisual Award from the Argentine National Fund for the Arts and premiered at BAFICI (Buenos Aires International Film Festival). His short film La Siesta had its international premiere in the official short film competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019. It also received an honorable mention at TIFF Short Cuts and won the Best Short Film Award at BAFICI that same year. He went on to direct Stay Still or I’ll Love You (CineAr Award for Best Short Film at the Mar del Plata International Film Festival, 2023) and At That Very Moment, co-directed with Rita Pauls (Best Documentary Short Film Award at IDFA 2024). His most recent short, How to Be Pehuen Pedre, premiered at Visions du Réel 2024. His debut feature, Simon of the Mountains, won the Grand Prize at Cannes Critics’ Week in 2024.
