Irina Tempea is a filmmaker and cultural worker of Romanian origin based in Tiohtià/Montréal. She holds a bachelor's degree in Film Studies from the Université de Montréal. Her diary-like artistic practice revolves around the analog process she uses to reveal herself. In the process, she questions the materiality of film while documenting her everyday life and those close to her. In My Head (2024), which explores her experience of living with multiple sclerosis, is her first film. She is now seeking to open a dialogue with other cinematic approaches and bring them into conversation in her second work, Bica.
_In My Head_ is an experimental first-person short film about the filmmaker’s multiple sclerosis as told through magnetic resonance images. Weaving medical imagery from hospital appointments with visual and sound fragments from daily life, this film-journal sketches the movement of life that persists with the disease.
