Jean-Baptiste Mees
Born in 1988 in Grenoble, Jean-Baptiste Mees moved to Marseille in 2011 to study documentary filmmaking in the professional master's program "Écritures documentaires" at Aix-Marseille University. His first films, 15 ans (2013) and La vie adulte (2016), depict pivotal moments in the lives of teenagers facing their first major choices. His next film, Plonger encore (2019), continues in this vein, focusing on older people coping with grief. In 2015 and 2016, he worked at the film research laboratory Lieux Fictifs as associate director on the project Images en mémoire, images en miroir, and took part in creative workshops held in prison settings. In 2022, in Montreal, he completed the exploratory program at the artist-run center Main Film and made La journée qui s'en vient est flambant neuve, shot on Super 8 film, which went on to win several awards. He also works regularly as a director of photography on documentary film projects.
