Jean Marc Larivière was born in 1955 in Hawkesbury, Ontario. After completing university studies in mathematics and physics, he devoted himself to writing, music, theater, and cinema. Initially active in Toronto for three decades, he has been based in Ottawa since 2006. A self-taught filmmaker, his independent productions and films for the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) have been screened in Canada, the United States, and Europe. At the heart of his artistic practice lies a quest to uncover and embody the poetry inherent in everyday life. In addition to his own projects, Jean Marc Larivière frequently collaborates on the work of other artists, including Peter Mettler, Barbara Sternberg, Marie Cadieux, Robert Dickson, and Patrice Desbiens. Since 1979, he has run his own production company, Communications Osmose.
