Joshua Frank is a Montreal-born documentary filmmaker and musician. Raised in Beijing, Hong Kong and New Delhi, he explores the intersection of cultures, framing stories through architecture, labour, migration, food and music. He applies his background in small-footprint shooting to share intimate, human stories, told with patience, creativity and journalistic rigour. Director of the Groundwork experimental documentary trilogy for the Canadian Centre for Architecture, and cinematographer of Big Fight in Little Chinatown and The Golden Village by filmmaker Karen Cho, he has also created numerous international short documentaries for platforms including VICE, Nowness and Asia Society. His work has been presented by festivals including DOC NYC, the Venice Biennale of Architecture, Shanghai Biennale, DOXA, RIDM, and the Brooklyn Film Festival.
