Lia Bertels
Lia Bertels studied animation filmmaking at La Cambre – École nationale supérieure des arts visuels in Brussels from 2006 to 2011. A filmmaker at heart, she quickly gravitated toward a poetic cinema that gives equal importance to writing and to the expression of her characters (Ceci ne vous regarde pas, 2010; Youssouf le Souffleur, 2011). Attentive to the details that reveal inner life, she seeks to portray the invisible within each of us—those subtle gestures that disclose our truth and reflect a deep humanism. From live music videos to illustration, and especially animation—her medium of choice—Lia Bertels turns graphic expression, in a refined and controlled style, into a true plea for the essential nature of human beings. She thus draws audiences into an intimate experience shaped by subtle perceptions and shared emotions.
