For over thirty years, Manon Barbeau has worked as a screenwriter and director for several organizations, including Télé-Québec and the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). She has directed numerous documentaries and, in 2003, founded Wapikoni Mobile in collaboration with the Conseil de la Nation Atikamekw, the First Nations Youth Council, with support from the Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador and the National Film Board of Canada. Since then, Wapikoni Mobile has traveled to Indigenous communities to offer workshops in short filmmaking and musical creation for First Peoples. Manon Barbeau received the Reconnaissance UQAM Award in 2010 for her documentary career and her commitment to Indigenous youth. She was named an Ashoka Fellow in 2009 and made an Officer of the National Order of Quebec in 2014. She has also received the Albert Tessier Award, the highest distinction for cinema in Quebec. In 2014, along with about fifteen international partners, she co-founded RICAA, the first International Indigenous Audiovisual Creation Network.
